Thank you for your interest in serving on the Chamber's Board of Directors!
 
What does it look like to serve on the Chamber's Board of Directors?
 
The Board is the visioning / governing body, responsible for the directional oversight of the CEO and adoption of the Chamber's Program of Work. They meet once a month for about an hour with the CEO to discuss governance matters and review the financial reports. Board Members are encouraged to be as active as possible in attending Chamber events, serving on committees and helping with Member recruitment and retention efforts.
 
As with most nonprofit organizations, the individuals who serve on the Board are asked to utilize their resources to the benefit of the Chamber. Those resources typically include:
  • Financial - you will invest in and financially support the events and activities, fulfilling the mission of the Chamber
  • Connections to Influencers and Investors - you will assist the Chamber CEO and Board Leadership in developing / improving relations with influencers or potential investors who support our Program of Work
  • Corporate / Time / Expertise - you, your company and / or your staff will work with the Chamber Board, Staff and Volunteers in achieving board-adopted goals
Election Process:
All completed applications will be forwarded to the Nominating Committee who will bring a slate of nominees for the Board's consideration. We currently have two open seats to be filled (unexpired terms). The Board will vote and those appointments will be effective immediately. Note that individuals who serve an unexpired term are eligible for election to a three-year term. 

Other nominees will be named to a slate for the Annual Board Election to be held no later than October - actual date TBA. At that time, five (5) directors will each be elected to serve a three (3) year term, effective Jan 1.
 
Board Elections are not a popularity contest. Rather, the Nominating Committee primarily consider business factors as size, type, location, or years in operation, as well as demographic factors such as minority or woman-owned. The goal is to ensure the Board of Directors is truly representative of the General Membership. For example, if we already had 2 churches represented on the Board, we might hold a church nominee for a later date in order to maintain a balance.

If you are not selected for either slate at this time, the Nominating Committee may ask you to keep your name in consideration in the event of another vacancy. We typically have 1-2 vacancies per year.
